Tucson, AZ....12th to 15th November 2017...

Hello again from the relaxed travellers....so relaxed I have been tardy with my blogging !!
We have been thoroughly
enjoying the hikes in The Tucson Mountain Park especially as we can just walk out from our home onto the trails...
Today though we head 30 kilometres (yes kilometres !!) south on the I-19 to Madera Canyon....
The I-19 which runs from Tucson to Nogales at the Mexican border is an oddity in the US interstate system as it measures the distance in kilometres and not miles...
It was built at a time when it was thought that American would change to the metric system but has never been changed to miles...
It made us smile that the speed limit is in MPH and note the "emergency telephone" sign !!!
But it's a very pleasant drive to the Madera Canyon State Park...
It's a totally different landscape from the saguaro desert area just a few "kilometres" north....
Oppps....we had planned to hike but although at 5450ft elevation it' still very hot and the hikes are all at least a 1000ft elevation change plus yikes there are bears in Arizona !!!
Does he know it's Thanksgiving next week !!!!
We did do a few of the short easy access walks...
Bat boxes have been installed throughout the park as breeding houses and safe resting sites for the many species of bats that migrate through the canyon.......
Despite not hiking we have enjoyed seeing this very pretty area....
A very pretty Blue Jay....
The view looking back at the Santa Rita Mountains from our lunch sandwich spot...
The view looking down into the valley and a reservoir that was once a huge copper mine.....
Mr Roadrunner at the visitor centre for the Pima Copper Mine....
We had just missed the last tour of the day but we did watch a very informative film about the mine, rather a one sided affair politically but....
It's 2 and half miles wide and 1,400 ft deep and the copper will be played out in 15 years !!!...
Fantastic sunset at Desert Trails RV Park....
Another day out on the trails of Tucson Mountain Park...
We are so liking being able to walk onto the trails from our back door....
We started out early today (yes even Yorkieman up and about) as we want to hike before the temperatures climb up to 90F.....they are having record temperatures for this time of year...no complaints from us....we are soaking up as much warmth as possible before returning to a chilly Blighty soon...
This and next photos...coyote dens...
The coyotes are certainly very vocal during the evenings.....
This and next 2 photos....fascinating cloud formations over the desert....

The San Xavier Mission...
An historic Spanish Catholic Mission....built between 1783-1797 it is the oldest European structure in Arizona and just 10 miles from our RV Park...

Next update soon from..
The Relaxed  Campers....

  1. Hi Sue & Michael,
At last a post I was getting ready contact the State troopers, I was worried that you had got lost in the desert.
Love the pics especially the sunset one,all a bit grey here.
Had lunch with Brian and Janet Boxall this week, he is in good form and looks like his condition is under control.

  2. Yes I was very tardy with blogging....one of the strange things of life when you are busy/working full-time you manage to fit everything in....stop being busy or retire and there never seems enough hours in the day !!!!
We have really been soaking up the warmth pre return to Blighty and the cold....record temps here, 91F today apparently all down to The Pineapple Express and not El Nino...
So glad to hear that you had a good lunch with Brian and Janet and that he is doing well....
Due to return on Thursday 30th...I'm at work on the 1st so hoping for small or no delay !!
Having nightcap....M is enjoying his Gentleman Jack !!
    Cheers from us to you...
